When schools were all closed after Katrina, Carlos spearheaded bringing families and children back to the city by gathering school community stakeholders to launch one of the first schools to open in January 2006. He united a diverse community, helped identify common goals, and put them into action, which is why he was chosen to be the Founding Board Chair.

After earning his teacher’s certification from Tulane University and his Master’s in History Teaching from UNO, Carlos taught history and social studies at Ben Franklin High School for nearly a decade.

Carlos Zervigon has been a New Orleans Public Schools teacher, parent, school founder and leader. But first, he was a NOPS graduate, ‘84 from Eleanor McMain. He is the only candidate with the training to stand up for students, teachers, and families on day one.
